Child’s First School Trip To Delightful Spain
By · CommentsLater on this year my daughter is off on a school trip to Spain.
She is really very excited about this as her and her mates will be staying in Barcelona, which is a place she has always wanted to stay in.
I will admit that when she first gave me the letter detailing the trip, I was quite flabbergasted by the price of the flights and accommodation. In all honesty for what we have paid for a 5 day trip for her, I could have easily booked a 2 week all inclusive holiday somewhere nice and hot.
You know what kids are like though and if she doesn’t go she will feel like she is missing out on something and it will do her good to experience the Spanish way of life. They will actually be attending a Spanish school whilst they are out there and so will have to use Spanish during lessons. Bearing in mind that she has only been studying Spanish for just over a year, she seems to be doing a pretty good job. Although she has managed to learn a great amount, as with any foreign language there is still lots more to learn.
Last week during class their lesson for the day was translating various phrases.
The first phrase the class had to have a go at translating was Mexican takeaways. I was pretty impressed as she got this one right, and the Spanish translation is takeaways mejicanos. Next on her list was Japanese takeaway, which when translated into Spanish is takeaway japones and Japanese restaurant is restaurante japones.
Like any mother though, I have quite a few worries about her forthcoming trip. How well will she behave? Will her carers and teachers take good care of her and keep an eye out for her? Will there be any disagreements with the girls she is sharing her room with? The list is pretty exhaustive. However, one thing I know I don’t have to worry about is if she will go hungry. At least I know that if all else fails she knows the Spanish for Japanese and Mexican takeaways, so as long as she can find a phone she can always order some food!!
